ATI Radeon 9700 Pro is the fastest card on the market right now, bout 20% quicker than the fastest nVidia card. Check out Tom's Hardware for comparisons.

Of course (as always) there's a new nVidia card just round the corner...

get a GeForce Ti or wait till the FX comes out -
I dont like the drivers for ATi... they dont render things the same way as Nvidia stuff, looks - worse?

just personal preference really.

i myself would never buy an ati, they are not tried and tested:P

nvidea get it right every time and they rule,

i just bought an asus gf4 ti4200 128meg ddr, and it roxors my boxors,

thats the card i would suggest £110 or so from www.overclockers.co.uk, althought they fucked up my order and wont be receiving any more orders from me.

the ti4600 is better, but not worth the 80-quid really, i would go for the ti4200 if i were you,

im not sure i agree with you there, ati have been around longer than nvidia, and know what they are doing when it comes to graphics. Having 'tried and tested' both brands of card i can tell you that there is little difference in the compatibility, although chief is right, atis graphics do look slightly different.

least ye forget

intel use ATi for the graphics chips on their server motherboards (when they are not using their own "intel eXtreem" stuff..) so their stuff is tried and tested, but not necessarily for performance. Which is what they are trying to disproove - with the new radeon range.

The last two lines of Radeon cards have trounced the nVidia equivalent. ATI cards are quick, they just have slightly shonky drivers at first. nVidia don't change much in between new card ranges, so their drivers can remain fundamentally the same, and hence more stable.

I'm getting a Radeon 9000 64MB DDR in me laptop, I've not used an ATI 3D card before, so I'll be interested to see how it performs.

Doubt if it'll make a noticable improvement over my GF4 4400 128MB...

A quick glance at good ol' Tom's Hardware revels that the 9700 Pro is in fact a good deal (20-30%) faster than even the 128Mb Ti4600 in all tests.

But in terms of actual difference in games, you're right, you won't notice, not for 6 months anyway

Guys,

I met the Marketing Director of ATI the other day. The new ATI stuff totally rocks, I am doing extensive testing at the moment and everyone can come and see my Radeon 9700 Pro in action at the event.

The drivers are a problem that ATI acknowledged and have put right, there has been a lot of effort and their Catalyst drivers are superb, rock solid, reliable and will be upgraded often.

ATI also are a much huger company than Nvidia and sell more graphics chips. So they are tried and tested, the Radeon 9700 Pro won the PC Format, PC Gamer and TheRegister graphics card of the year awards.

All in all, I can recommend them. I have NVidia cards too they are also very good, but not as fast at the moment.

I am a genuine fan. I have been converted. I still think Nvidia rox too, but I am mightily impressed with ATI.
