Guys,
Can someone please let me know a way that i can disable read receipts in outlook 2000 at work. I dont like people knowing when ive read their email and i dont seem to be able to disable it as it is greyed out. I have checked some other forms and some indicate that it is an exchange issue and there isnt much i can do about it. Other forms tell me it is possible to disable it but i have to create script which isnt really my field of expertise!
Any help would be useful but keep in mind this is my work machine and i dont really want to mess up their mail system or my outlook... i might have some explaining to do after that!!!
Thanks in advance
J

I take it that you mean when other people have read receipts so it tells them you've read it?
You could try Tools | Options | Email Options | Tracking Options.
In there there's a tick box that says "process receipts on arrival". That might do it...

If that doesn't work turn on the preview pane. You can read the email, delete it and they get a message telling them you deleted it WITHOUT reading...

Jamie, it may be a server side rule on exchange. In Tools | Options | Email Options | Tracking Options there seemed to be the option to disable it but only if you were using Outlook with an ISP.
If it was me I'd just stop caring whether ppl know if you've read their email or not. If they insist on coming over and asking for your response just make up some bullshit about only having glanced at it and the get up and walk away as though you're really busy! Works for me all the time
The other way you could potentially get around it would be to create a rule to forward all emails to an offline folder. It may not send a return receipt that way......

Yeah the things i have read on the web suggest that it is an exchange based problem. But that offline rule sounds interesting, gonna give it a go and see what happens!
As for the glancing of emails, good idea in practice, but we have "email templates" that if you galnce at them you already know what they are about.... and the bastards always put read receipts on them
Oh well, looks like i will have to do my job properly from now on!
Cheers for the advice though guys.

Sorry, just moved house and life is in chaos, missed your reply. Will calm down next week when I deploy to Iraq, not that that will impove matters in the reply times department. Bet the internet access sucks though...
