Game Music.

Post by eclipse »

I find that many games these days have really rubbish in game music, or at least that's my perception, there are many games that have great in-game music however, out of all the games I've played I think Deus Ex has had the best, I even listen to the music from that in Winamp when I'm not playing. a recently played game with music I liked was Neverwinter Nights, and before that Baldur's Gate II, which I really loved, really dramatic and stuff, what do you peeps think of game music? am I wrong to say most game music isn't good?

Yeah most game music is not very good ATM.But when I play my xbox I don't have to worry about dodgy music as most games can play the tunes I store on my hard drive. Best in game music ATM in my opinion is the music in Halo.

mostly the good "game" music is usually either

a) some sort of mishy mashy lift music
b) some not to bad atmospheric background stuff
c) licenced music ala the fifa games and gran turismo
d) music that wouldnt seem out of place on a film score

baldurs gate and the ilk have the quality stuff going on there.. most other games if they have music at all it either fits in to the theme of the game or it gets turned off

im waffling

usually the only music i really listen to while gaming is metally rocky / electro bollox for quakeage and japanese supereurobeat for raceage

but actually now i think about it one of my select few musical artists i really like listening to is Sonic mayhem he does alot of electro stuff now but he used to do some throttley metal a while back...for quake 2 and 3..also he supposedly made the weapon sounds for ut...other game credits include one of those bond games on some console or other...and he almost made the music for AVP2 but some other sucker beat him to it

other random text i shall now type that will fill lots of space

metal gear solid 2 on the ps2 has a great soundtrack...composed by a proper film composer dunno his name but he is on the promo DVD shipped with the game

err ok thats all i can think of actually...pointless subheading for that bit

oh I am SUCH an idiot for forgetting about Metal Gear Solid 2!!! I LOVE IT! I have the soundtrack on my PC, I've only found it on one website in all the internet that Google knows about ;)

I love the theme music from Max Payne, you know the one that plays on the main game screen.

and there were 2 tracks from Unreal Tourny that I liked but I thought most of them were a bit crap to listen to on their own, ok in the game though, but I guess that's the only function they had to serve.

nothing, i mean NOTHING comes close to the soundtrack on WipeOut on playstation. Pure genius. Sure it wasn't all written for the game, but what a compilation

Best contemporary game music has to be Rez or either of the Jet Set Radio games. Gotta love Guitar Vader and all those mad Japanese composers, Keiichi Sugiyama et al... :)

Nah, that was an eval until I got it proper. I found a copy in GAME here in Winchester. Paid full whack £29.99 for it too.
