How "Crufted" is your system?

Post by PeteTheHair »

I saw this a while ago, but came across it again today, and decided it was probably worth posting for those of you who haven't had the joy yet...

So... where's your system?

my PC is at cruft force 4, middle aged; but the college work stations are at 10, putrefaction... They are painful to use.

Cruft Force 9. Putrefaction. Description: Can only see the 32-GB D:\ partition — the one which has all the source code on it — at every third boot. Directory count in C:\ up to 93, partly because some [one/thing] has put a complete (but non-working) installation of the Eudora e-mail client in the root.
Worryingly close to mine. Except it's not Eudora on mine, it's just full of artefacts from abandoned NT/XP installs...
Reformat? Never!

God bless Alienware and 1Gb RAM :D \o/

My laptop's only frozen twice since I got it, and both times it was misbehaving games =/

Mine' s at cruft force 7:Wounded, except the login is relativly painless. It is the 6 Operating Systems on my 12  partitions (from 3 drives).

My computer's saving grace is lack of folders on root folders on partitions - every 2/3 months I have to spring clean - meaning I get everything categorised and sub-categorised. Uatec will vouch that my C:\ has never more than 3 folders in it.

At the moment I would say my PC is at Cruft Force 2, seeing as I had to get a new HDD a month ago as the old one decided to die.

Own computer comes in at 3
I believe I may have reduced a mates pc to cruft 11
Cruft Force 10. Expiry. Description: Machine only runs in Safe mode at 16-color 800×600, and even then for about a minute and a half before BSODing. Attempts to start an app are rewarded with a dialog "No font list found."

Ordinary dodges, such as reformatting the hard disk(s) and starting again, are ineffective.
Where as his wont run in safe mode and even a reformat dont work,
It is an error with on board hardware whic only started when I tried to install network driver

In my defence this is an OLD pc

"new" is the wrong word
meant just a different copy to the one I was using
I.e. one which doesnt resembe a record like his did
But my dad does have copies of almost all Windows OS
Including 3.1 on the old school floppy disks, always fun to boot up the old viglin in my attick and use paint 1.
Ok just me then

Cruft Force 3. Lived-in.

It never really gets to Force 4 because i always seem to get a new hard drive by this time and it requires new install!
