Of course. Why would I want to ride on the cycle path along with all the broken glass? Or cars that park in them.

Anyway, this is off topic. STFU.

Take a chill pill the pair of you. Go watch the Grand Prix if you want to watch some stunt driving this weekend...

Yea guys, sorry I can't make it to this one - finals and all that. Would love to come.
Pete shouldn't be going, but doubtless he'll find a spare day sometime to visit you all.

Our little Sparc IPX, "bungle" has been resurrected from the ashes to act as a DNS/DHCP/WINS server. If you want to borrow him, you're welcome, and Pete and Chris will be happy to know that there's a little web interface to DNS so they don't have to get their hands dirty in config files ^_^. Only trouble will be moving him to b'stoke (where all the other kit is). Pete, next time you're going home, would you mind putting bungle back into storage? ^_^

Isn't it time Bungle was put out to pasture, and you got something with a bit more "umph" ? Theres currently a bargain to be had on ebay.

I think you'll find all the SG servers have cunningly themed names.

Bungle comes from Nick's collection of PCs, named after Rainbow characters... I think the full list includes the desktops Zippy and George, the Sparc Bungle, and there was another sparc, though I forget it's name.

When it comes to replacing the Sparcs, we tried for the last (two?) events... though last time I entirely forgot to bring one, and we had to scav a copy of WinRoute to put on my system before we could kick off :) However, running DHCP and DNS for 40 PCs ain't exactly a huge task (I could prolly do it manually :) ), and the sparc has more than enough power behind it to do the job. That and Nick gets a geeky little glow every time he looks over and sees his 10-15 year old hardware actually being used ;)

Zippy and Geoffrey are the desktop machines, I'll have you know.
/me sniffs in memory of George.

Yea, bungle's got easily enough power to run DHCP and DNS stuff (and even a webserver, scarily). And it was my machine that ran WinRoute, damn you - I couldn't reboot to Linux! Not that I had it installed, but it's the principle of the thing...

*geeky glow*

right.. no offence pete, but i thought you had 1 & 1/2, but if it makes you feel better it made you look like you had 30. Can i become a mod of this forum, Fujitsu's been mentioned too many times recently for my liking and specially next to the word "supercomputer" .. it needs to be stamped out. And what's wrong with running an old sparc box as a dhcp server? as an oldie i personally think it's quite cool having it on an old box, we all know it can do the job, and the hardware's sound build quality wise :)
