I've played through single player 3 times now, once on nightmare, but I've not played multi yet since my current version is downloaded, my real copy should be dropping through my letterbox on Friday hopefully so I can give it a go then. Damn staggered release, at least single player keeps me amused :). Most people seem to really dislike multi, saying it's pretty crap. I for one bought this game for the single player, but I'll still definitely check out multiplayer.

The only mods I've heard of are some cooperative mode mod, but there are rumors that all it does is steal your CD key, so one to avoid for now methinks. Apart from that I've only heard a mod that lets you use the flashlight at the same time as some weapons.

Team Fortress is apparently in the works, but no release date that I'm aware of.

Definately read about co-op Mod ripping off CD keys. One to beware of for the minute fer sure. I suppose the question is what does it support out of the box - FFA I guess, UT04 has that one sewn up for all the good stuff...

My god...

Multiplayer is a huge disappointment.

For starters I have to play it in 800*600, on Low setting, with all advanced options turned off just to get an acceptable frame rate.

I was playing single player at 1280*1024, on High setting, with all advanced options turned on without any frame rate problems!

Every server is a total lag fest too, I've been on so many different servers that it can't just be sucky servers, the code behind multiplayer must truly be god-awful.

Anybody else experience this? I don't think it's my rig that's at fault, while not the most recent hardware, it is by no means ancient either:

P4 2533 MHz
512MB PC1066 RDRAM
5900 Ultra
All my HDDs are 7200 RPM / 8MB cache
576/288 kbps up/down ADSL

I played UK servers only, and I wasn't the only one complaining about the laggyness.

I found it almost identical to play online as Q3, down to the sound effects. Most servers only support 4 players and the cut down graphics online are not pretty. I play at 1024 x 768 on/offline with Med effects.

When I mention Q3 - it's because it's a dissapointment to me as - both games have added tarted up graphics and nothing else to the mix. While I'm having a whinge, it's almost unplayable in single-player without the Duct Tape Mod as there's dark - then there's too damn dark.

That being the case CS & BF1942 etc are staying and id fans need to sort some decent mods out real quick.

AMD 63 3200+
1 Gig PC3200 2-2-2-5
240 Gig SATA RAID (2 x 120 with 8MB Cache etc)
512/256 ADSL
GForce 4400 128MB - I'ts going to be replaced by a 6600 when they reach the shops, there is no way I am paying more than £300 for a graphics card...

I can see the multiplayer maybe being a bit more interesting on xbox live because of the controllers. Personally i'm sticking with NS and DC for my multiplayer fix.

Apart from all this doom3 nonsense is there any chance of having a massive BF (DC, BFV whatever) game like we used to!?

I haven't given Baron the kicking he deserves for a few lans now.

Played single-player a bit, enjoying it a lot. Haven't had a chance to play multiplayer yet (don't even get me started on BT and adsl :()

Anyone know if some daft mod like Catch-The-Chicken or similar is gonna be about for Doom 3 by the time we get to the event? There's gotta be some redeeming features here somewhere :)

It's looking like we'll need a motherboard and CPU at least as good as the prize for the Doom 3 tourney in order to be in with a chance of winning to prize for the Doom 3 tourney :)
