Homeworld 2

Post by mid_gen »

Well, after being a wuss (well, studying, surprisingly enough), and not getting round to completing Homeworld 2 single-player, I have had to put in a good few hours the last few days on skirmish missions to acquaint myself with all the units etc..

It rocks! It really does :) Make sure you turn NLIPS off in game options though, it gives everything much nicer scale.

I look forward to seeing huge fleets of battlecruisers and destroyers pounding lumps out of each other :E This could well be my game of the LAN..

Glad you like it :)
I'm going to be giving my poor on-board GFX chip something to cry about this LAN with that game.

It's an improvement on its predecessors, but as buggy as a big buggy thing...

Turn all the graphics options on and it crashes. It's not exactly a massive 3D render problem to run in the first place... :?

I dunno if you zoom in close on a battlecruiser formation things can start to get a little shaky :)

I'm talking about a clean install. Running game, increasing graphics from default then crashing. I have no problems now I got it going, just can't have LOD on etc...

HomeWorld 1's source code has been released... I'm very interested to see what modifications this will mean :)

Homeworld 2 will probably be my game of the LAN too, I've not put much practice in though :|

Homeworld 2 is the most unbalanced yet imo.

The Vagyr don't stand a chance against an 'equal' Hiigaran fleet. I expect the weekend to be nearly all Hiigaran vs Hiigaran.

RE: buggey as hell,
I've not had a single issue with the game and I run it with max settings at 1280*1024. P4 2.53, 512 pc1066 RD, 5900 Ultra det 53.03. Dunno if you use an FX the det 52.16s made performance slow but it was fixed with the most recent release.
Only problem I ever had was completeing the game and having fun at the same time when the AI has 10+ times your fleet. I think I felt relief more than fun when I finished it.

Why is it so unbalanced? There's not a lot of difference between the two.

One thing that needs changing is the sensor ping...bit *too* useful. One ping and you know where all the enemy's resourcing operations are. Kinda negates the fact that you have a lot more 3D space to play around in.
